COOLING - the cabin generally stays cool, even on the hottest days

The back of the cabin is always in deep shade; the front is sunny.  Air conditioning by natural convection through the cabin from back to front, aided by electric floor fans and ceiling fans.

WATER  - plenty to drink, wash and bathe even in drought season

We love the taste of mountain spring water, filtered from the aquifer through French drains (natural stone) then pumped from a collection tank at the foot of the mountain into an upper holding tank. No added chemicals or fibrous filters.

COMPOSTING TOILET  - indoors, inside the luxurious bathroom

SunMar composting toilet - modern, closed system, efficient to operate, minimal odor - instructions posted and supplies provided 

HEATING - responsibly-harvested wood burned in the beautiful modern woodstove heats the cabin quickly and keeps it comfortable.  Firewood is provided; NEWSPAPERS make great starter.

Ceiling fans move warm air through the cabin.  Forced-air space heaters heat chilly people quickly.  Bedwarmers are provided for each bed.

Black Hawk Weyr is a country home - vacation rental

- different from a hotel, inn or B&B -

no formal “grounds” or groundskeepers, no maid service, utter privacy

*Systems are earth-friendly and people-friendly

HOT WATER- “on demand” water heater = endless supply of hot water

For hotter water, decrease the flow rate.

Keys to the cabin include our membership in Ukiah Natural Foods Co-op,

which features locally and sustainably farmed produce, coffees, and other wonderful foods and sundries

Environmentally-friendly bath, laundry, and cleaning products are stocked.

Vacationers are welcome to bring their own - phosphate-free and clearly labeled "biodegradable"

NO OPEN FIRES ARE ALLOWED ON THE LAND ANYWHERE

THIS IS AN IMPORTANT LAW IN THE COUNTY

– BURNING ANYTHING OUTSIDE (except for the barbecue grill) REQUIRES A PERMIT

NO SMOKING INSIDE THE CABIN - of any inhalable substance - AT ANY TIME

PETS - can be harmed, do harm, and can carry poison oak inside to their owners

Discuss your pets with us first, receive our permission, or leave them at home

No off-road motorized vehicles of any sort may be driven on the land

You may freely use your own off-road bicycles

APPLIANCES - all electric except the barbecue - ready for solar energy installation when we add it - using "green" energy supplied by PG&E
